Why This Generation of Israelites Is Being Called Back

An Awakening Moment In History

There is a growing number of Israelites around the globe who are questioning everything they've ever been taught about the Bible, History and Identity. As this new generation moves further away from the traditional teaching methods, Church culture and even inherited answers; many are starting to ask some deeper questions. "Who are the people described in the Bible?" "Who made covenant with the Most High?" And why does scripture continually talk about one Nation?

This awakening isn't happening by chance. It's actually part of a return. The Most High has always dealt with the Nation of Israel. The Bible isn't universal. It is the record of the Most High's covenant dealings, corrections, judgments, mercies and promises regarding His Chosen people.

Finding Our Way Back To The People Of The Book

For many generations, most people have read the Bible while viewing the people in it as mere illustrations rather than the real people they actually were. Many times when Israel has been depicted historically in art and literature over the years, there has never been an attempt to depict them as Black North Eastern Africans which is exactly where the majority of the people lived in Scriptural Times.

But for many young people today, things have changed. For many, they are now looking at Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon and the Prophets. And they're finding out these weren't just names they heard in Sunday School. These were actual people from a very specific blood line, culture, Land, Laws and Covenant Identity.

The Bible wasn't written as an abstract spiritual document disconnected from History. On the contrary it is thoroughly connected to the history of Israel. Therefore we will need to find our way back to the people God was speaking to in order to fully comprehend it.

A Call Back To Covenant Obedience

While learning your ancestry is important, this generation is not only being called back to learn about their heritage. They are also being called back to recall their responsibility. While Israel was chosen by God, they were also commanded. God gave Israel laws (instructions), warnings and standards.

What form does obedience take today? It doesn't take the form of empty religiosity. Nor does it take the form of performance based religiosity. It certainly takes much more than simply identifying oneself as an Israelite. A true return requires reverence, repentance and a willingness to follow after the Ways of the Most High.

History shows us the blessings and curses that occurred in relation to Israel's obedience/disobedience. Wherever Israel followed the commands given them by God, they were under His protection and guidance. Whenever they disobeyed God, they suffered judgment. This historical precedent is repeated time and time again throughout Scripture since covenant keeping is extremely important.

Moving Away From Misconceptions About Historical Figures

Another reason why this generation is being called back to God is because misconceptions have obscured the Truth. One major misconception has been that the people of the Bible looked like everyone else - except for a few exceptions here and there - whereas in reality the vast majority of people living during those times in Scripture were Black North Eastern Africans.

Identity is important. When a group of people forgets about their past, they often lose sight of their purpose as well. By restoring a correct racial perspective of Scripture, young Israelites are able to rediscover themselves within the narrative once again.

Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon and the Prophets were not nameless, faceless biblical characters. Rather they were flesh and blood people. Each had families, challenges, beauty, sorrow, faithfulness, weaknesses and bravery. Their stories are indeed part of the legacy of Israel.

Recalling The Works Of The Most High

Over and over again in Scripture, The Most High instructed Israel to remember: remember you escaped slavery in Egypt; remember My Commandments; remember My covenant; remember how I took care of you in the Wilderness; remember your forefathers.

It is very bad for Israel to forget. Whenever Israel forgot, she became lost and wandered into confusion and rebellion. This current generation is being called back because remembering is a big part of restoration.

To remember means to rediscover something that was forgotten long ago. It means reading Scripture with open eyes. It means realizing that The Most High didn't forget His Word, Promises or People.

A Return With Purpose

Let this awareness bring humility and not pride. Let the returning to their Israelite identity be done with reverent awe towards The Most High. Let this generation use the wealth of information available to them today (Scripture, Study Resources, Family Ties) to develop more profound family relationships and identities.

However the call back to understanding their identity is more than knowing who Israel is. The Most High wants them to understand who He is; what He wanted from Israel; and why His actions towards her continue to be relevant.
